Course Description

This programme is designed to provide Biomedical Engineering Technologists for the hospital and medical device manufacturing environments. The course is delivered through formal lectures, tutorials, practical and project work. There are a number of dedicated Biomedical Engineering laboratories containing leading edge technology. These facilitate teaching and research both at undergraduate and postgraduate level and include: Gait Analysis Lab Biomaterial Lab Hurley Helmet Testing Rig Instron Dynamic Testing Machine Non-Contact 3D Light Scanner Rapid Prototyping Machine A module on biomedical devices and equipment is taught by a senior member of the Biomedical Engineering Unit of mCork University Hospital (CUH). Project and design work are a major feature of the course. In the final year each student undertakes a project involving research, design, prototype development and experimental verification to meet a real need relating to the biomedical industry. Projects are carried out in conjunction with industry, with medical practitioners and with the Biomedical Engineering Unit of Cork University Hospital.
