Course Description

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Computing (Software Design and Development) is a 240 credit, 4 year (8 semester) programme built around the core computing streams of Programming, Software Development, Hardware, Systems, Analytical Skills, Information Management for Business and Personal Development. The flexible modular structure has been considered by LIT Tipperary to benefit students through greater control and flexibility with respect to their study patterns, enhanced portability of their credits achieved either at home and/or abroad, and gaining credit for the gaining of achievements in shorter timeframes. This programme is designed to produce graduates with an in depth knowledge of software development who can analyse, design and develop quality software systems. Graduates can expect to take up employment in industries ranging from the large multinational companies to small or medium enterprises. The programme builds upon a common Year 1 across all Computing programmes in LIT Tipperary to then specialise in the software development arena. The programme will: • Give students the skills necessary to write well-designed, user-friendly applications that meet user requirements; • Develop students who can critically compare various software development languages and paradigms; • Give students the ability and skills to work on more complex software development projects; • Provide students with the necessary project management skills to enable them to manage the process of implementing a project through the various stages.
