Career outcomes

Our Business students are excelling in the business environment even though they haven’t graduated yet! Over the last two years, Business students have won two prestigious national inter-colleges competitions. In 2009, a team of Business students won the Irish Taxation Institute’s Fantasy Budget competition, beating off stiff competition from numerous other colleges. The competition requested students to explore ideas of what they would do in the Budget if they were Minister for Finance. Students were required to demonstrate the necessary skill, flair and imagination to put together a budget that would introduce new and effective policy initiatives to the Irish tax system. Entries for the competition were judged by a panel of leading economists and taxation advisors, who looked for originality, sound reasoning and awareness of the likely impact of the proposals. As part of their prize, our Business students presented their proposals to a group of senior economists and tax consultants in advance of the 2010 Budget. Further success was recorded by LIT-Tipperary Business students in March 2010 in the Newstalk 106-108FM Student Enterprise Competition. From an initial record entry of 1400 students across 350 teams, the LIT-Tipperary team made it to the final where the four student team presented a case study based on a real-life business scenario to a panel of judges. In the final, the students beat off competition from three other colleges to win the event. Congratulating our students on their fantastic achievement, Denis O’Brien,Competition Chairperson and Chairman of the Digicel Group commended the Tipperary team on their hard work and dedication which ably demonstrated ‘an understanding of business management and early-stage entrepreneurship’. As part of their prize, the winning team and their lecturer travelled to the Carribean where they shadowed executives of the Digicel Group at work and of course savoured the opportunity to enjoy the sun and the sights for a week!
