This unique business and entrepreneurship programme will help you to develop the essential skills required to grow a business and succeed as an entrepreneur. Students are encouraged to start their business in the first year of study, developing it throughout the following two years. The curriculum covers a range of relevant topics including economics, marketing, the law, finance and management. This ensures that graduates possess a broad base of transferable business skills. Students pick optional units in their second and third year, helping them to specialise in areas that are most relevant to their own business. The School of Business and Law has been awarded the Small Business Charter, which recognises the support Solent gives to student entrepreneurs and small local businesses. Southampton Solent University was rated as one of the top twenty UK institutions for graduate start-ups in 2015 (HEBCI). Students work alongside a supportive and experienced course team from a wide range of entrepreneurial and business backgrounds. Students may have the opportunity to work on a live client brief as part of a final year business consultancy project. Solent’s student entrepreneur programme offers encouragement and support to students who set up their own business. Students can pursue valuable professional qualifications alongside their degree (subject to external fees).

This course has been designed to help students achieve one of two intended outcomes. The first involves students managing their own business and applying the knowledge gained throughout their degree in a way that helps the business grow. The second is a portfolio career, where personal ventures are combined with part-time work or work within the small to medium business environment. Suitable roles for graduates include: Marketing Account Management Buying and purchasing Production Works and maintenance management Personnel and recruitment consultancy Retail management.
