Course Description

Are you interested in joining the fast-paced world of international finance? Whether you dream of becoming an accountant, investment broker or financial advisor, this full-time degree will help equip you with the skills you’ll need to get your career off to a great start. Solent graduates are exempt from up to two-thirds of Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Association of International Accountants (AIA) exams as you will be taught the relevant content as part of the course. Our accreditations from ACCA, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), and AIA show potential employers that Southampton Solent’s teaching meets the standards set by the industry itself. Students are given the option to work in the industry for a year, a valuable opportunity to develop professional experience. Guest speakers and live assessment briefs have previously been provided by professionals from both the local and national finance industry. Students are given access to professional Bloomberg finance software. The curriculum looks at both the national and the international finance industry, keeping students up to date with the global economy and giving them the option of pursuing a career abroad after graduation. Students benefit from a high level of contact time with lecturers and gave the course a 92% satisfaction level for staff contact time in the NSS survey 2014. The academic team who deliver this course have first-hand experience of the finance industry, gained from time spent in a range of different roles. There are a various optional units built into the course, allowing students to specialise in a specific area of accountancy and finance, or gain a broad understanding of the industry. This challenging professional course delivers all the skills you’ll need to start a career in accountancy or finance, from enquiry, analysis, interpretation and communication to knowledge of the latest accounting techniques and software. You’ll carry out relevant work-related placements, building hands-on experience and professional connections, and learn a wide range of systems and business contexts. You’ll get to grips with the UK reporting regime and learn about the international financial system, and use a range of optional units to specialise in accounting and finance or broaden your knowledge in a wider business context.
