Course Description

Business analytics is the management and processing of data used to inform business strategies. Modern businesses generate and store massive amounts of data. From web clicks, to sales, to advertising — all of these activities generate large amounts of interrelated data. Business analytics helps formalize the process of drawing insight from this data, which is used to drive business decisions and actions. It is one of the fastest growing areas of business and applicable to nearly every industry. The business analytics co-major teaches students how to: Collect and manage data efficiently Analyze data to understand what’s going on Predict market trends and make smart business decisions

Business analysts use data, statistics and modeling to inform business strategies. Business analytics may include predictive analytics, business intelligence, human performance management, data visualization and many other subjects. Business analytic skills are in high demand across a wide range of industries. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, “business intelligence” (another commonly used name for business analytics) shows growth of between 7% and 13% a year between 2008 and 2018.
