Course Description

Build a better future for yourself in a hands-on and practical learning environment. Lambton College’s Construction Carpentry Techniques program utilizes current technology, modern equipment and has a strong focus on eco-friendly building products and construction materials. As a graduate you will possess significant experience working in the 6,500 sq. ft. shop (located in the Lambton College Skilled Trades Training Centre) as well as in an 1,800 sq. ft. teaching house that is reconstructed annually by students in the program. This hands-on learning, combined with in-class training, will provide students with the skills necessary to enter the residential construction and renovation sector. Framing, layout, roof construction, stairs and foundations will be taught in detail as well as the fundamentals of calculating construction and labour costs. Students will also have the opportunity to attend annual trade shows and visit local job sites in the community where they will have the opportunity to network and learn from local industries. Successful graduates are exempt from the in-school basic level of the General Carpentry Apprenticeship Program. Students entering this program in September 2014 are entering a Mobile Learning program. To be able to participate in the mobile learning experience, it is essential that all entering students have a mobile device with wireless capabilities.

Career outcomes

Graduates can pursue opportunities as apprentice carpenters, or may find work in the areas of: in-home construction, renovation, commercial construction and maintenance department. Due to low interest rates, the construction sector shows significant demand and growth resulting in all graduates finding employment in a construction-related field where they put the skills acquired in this program to work.
