Course Description

The Master’s Degree in Journalism and Digital Media is an intensely practical and professionally focused programme that prepares students to work in all areas of journalism, and digital media production, in Ireland and abroad. This training takes place across a one-year, full-time, or a 2 to 3 year, part-time, postgraduate degree. Placing an emphasis on developing practical and hands-on skills, students on the MA in Journalism and Digital Media work to source, produce and disseminate news and information across a host of up-to-date media including printed production, film, radio, online and across social media. A strong analytical background is provided in courses that examine media law and ethics, and contemporary issues that shape today’s journalistic landscape. Students will also have the opportunity to work with industry-leading journalists to specialise in areas such as sports, business, arts or political journalism. Unique to Independent College is the opportunity for our students to undertake intensive internships at Independent News and Media’s high-profile national and regional newspapers. Students who do not undertake the writing of a MA dissertation, or completion of a major project, also have the option of attaining the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism and Digital Media awarded by the QQI.
