H.Dip in Psychotherapy Studies (Level 8)

Course Description

The Higher Diploma in Psychotherapy Studies (Level 8) is a one-year intensive academic programme in psychotherapy theory, practice and application. It provides a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis that are applicable in a variety of institutional and employment settings and in any of the branches of human relations. It also provides a rigorous platform for those who wish to go on to further studies at Master’s level and pursue a clinical training. The course is suitable for those with clinical experience but who do not hold a primary degree, or those with an undergraduate degree in a social or cognate science seeking to undertake a degree in psychotherapy. With six year-long modules covering psychotherapy theory; psychotherapy applications; psychoanalysis; philosophy and a research dissertation, the course cultivates critical thinking and analytic abilities and contextualises them in terms of psychotherapeutic practice and technique. The programme aims at placing the student in a strong position to move onto the MA in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy offered at Independent College or move to similar programmes at other institutions.
