The BA (Hons) in Journalism (both day and evening) is a highly creative and career-focused degree programme, covering a wide range of practical and theoretical subjects ranging from news reporting to celebrity coverage and from sports journalism to video and web production. Students are involved in hands-on innovative journalistic projects from the beginning of the programme and gain invaluable practical experience on unique internships with Independent News and Media. Theoretical considerations of areas such as media law, ethics, media analysis, popular culture and international journalism complement the practical dimensions of the programme. Students undertake field trips to key journalistic events including Leader's Questions at the Dáil, Ministerial press briefings, Circuit, Criminal and High Court trials and Government committe meetings. This course will be of interest to anyone with an interest in current affairs, sports, arts, culture and global issues, and is particularly suited to creative and resourceful students who wish to develop strong industry-standard journalistic abilities alongside highly focused analytical skills.
