Course Description

The Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies is a response to the continued growth of interest in this area. The course is designed to be an attractive, relevant, accessible and practical introduction to counselling and psychotherapy. The programme syllabus includes a broad introduction to Developmental Psychology, Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy, Family Therapy, Counselling Skills and Personal Development, Applied Psychotherapy, Intro to Philosophy and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). This Level 6 Certificate programme is designed to stand alone as an introduction to the field of counselling and psychotherapy and to provide an excellent foundation that will allow the student to progress onto further studies. It also constitutes Year 1 of the BA in Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies programme and students who are successful may move onto Year 2 of the BA. The programme may be viewed as one element in an ongoing training programme in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Independent College that includes both Level 8 (B.A and H.Dip.) and Level 9 (M.A) components.
