BEng Computing

Course Description

The BEng and MEng Computing programmes follow broadly the same structure for the first two years. This means that you can move between BEng and MEng, and among the various MEng specialisations, at any time during the first two years. Core courses in the first two years will provide you with broad knowledge and skills in the science and engineering of computation. These are supplemented by optional courses of your choice which may be relevant to your chosen specialism. Throughout your studies you will participate in project and design work, including a group project in the third year. In your final year you will spend around eight months working on an individual project. In the third year of the MEng programmes, you will participate in an industrial placement, which provides valuable experience of what it is like to work in industry. The placement extends from April until the end of September and in many cases leads to an offer of a job at the end of the final year. Students on the International Programme of Study spend their third or, more typically, fourth year on an exchange programme at an institution overseas. Opportunities are currently available in France, Germany, Switzerland, the USA and New Zealand.
