Course Details

BEng Biomedical Engineering

Course Description

Both our BEng and MEng degrees are accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). You will also be awarded the Associateship of the City and Guilds of London Institute (ACGI). Our dual accreditation means you will graduate with an industry-recognised qualification. In particular, our MEng degree satisfies the academic requirements for Chartered Engineer status. On top of this, you will gain extensive bioengineering knowledge that will open the doors to careers in a rapidly expanding industry. The technical skills that a biomedical engineer possesses include the skills in physics and mathematics that all engineers have, as well as more specific expertise in biology and medicine. It is this fusion of engineering knowledge and its practical application in healthcare that have led to advancements in areas such as assistive medical technologies, from artificial limbs to implanted medical devices such as pacemakers, stents and hearing aids, for people living with injuries, disabilities or illnesses. Medical practice’s increasing reliance on information technology means that there is an increasing demand for doctors with technical expertise in a wide range of medical specialties including cardiology, orthopaedics, radiology and surgery. A number of our graduates apply to enter graduate medical courses and follow a route leading eventually to BEng and MBBS degrees.
