BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Course Description

The three-year (BEng) and four-year (MEng) Electrical and Electronic Engineering degrees are highly technical programmes with a small number of languages, humanities and business options. Students on the Electrical and Electronic Engineering programmes follow a core programme in years one and two, which gives them a strong grounding in the fundamentals of electrical and electronic engineering. In years three and four students select a programme of eight modules per year from specialist areas such as energy systems or communications. All of the MEng degrees have the option for students to undertake an assessed six-month paid industrial placement during the third year. The placement provides a great way of gaining substantial work experience relevant to your degree. The MEng with Management degree prepares future engineering leaders to manage the business of engineering. Management stream students study core modules taught by the Business School. The knowledge and skills you gain from this course become part of the foundation for your future career, which could be working in a large organisation or even starting your own company. This degree is also a proven and popular route into graduate positions in the finance sector as well as management roles in a technical environment. Engineering is an international business, so it is an advantage in the competitive job market to have experience of working methods outside the UK. Our Year Abroad programme gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in a different culture, practise and refine your language skills, and broaden your horizons and academic knowledge by spending the fourth year of your course at an overseas university.
