BA(Hons) Film and Television Production

Course Description

During the first year the course will introduce you to a broad range of skills. From this broad experience you can choose to focus on a particular area of practice during the second year and carry this forward to your final degree productions in year 3. Over the three years you will cover areas such as documentary, scriptwriting, TV commercials, short film production as well as music video and multi camera television production. The course focuses on the real world of film and television production. You follow current professional practice and learn to operate the same equipment as industry professionals. You also learn to consider the place of new distribution technology as a possible method of distributing your work to viewers.

Join the roll call of our graduates who have won 27 Royal Television Society Awards and have gone on to work for among others; BBC Productions, MTV (Berlin), ITV Productions, Company Pictures, Planet 24, Nickelodeon, Ridley Scott Associates and Independent Productions. This course is designed to give you all the relevant skills in the production of both film and television artefacts. The course covers the technical and academic sides of production although there is a weighting towards production. Our facilities allow you to experience most of the production contexts in which you will work. This is a vibrant, practical course that allows you to develop your creativity in whichever area you wish to specialise. The course team includes practising professionals as well as visiting practitioners representing a wide range of production areas. Film and Television Production students ran acoustic sessions for performers at the 2013 Kendal Calling music festival, using the skills they have learned on the course to produce a series of 'Lakeside Sessions' films published on the festival's website and social media channels.
