Course Details

BA(Hons) Fine Art

Course Description

Year one includes inductions into all the main resource areas—painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, IT and video. Practical work is informed by art theory, as well as critical and historic perspectives, placing it in a contemporary context. The main focus of year two is your personally negotiated programme. You take part in a public exhibition, gaining professional experience. This lays the foundation for your practical and theoretical research in year three. As your research and practical skills mature we increasingly encourage independent thought and action. You attend a series of lectures, talks and projects addressing professional fine art practice and current issues. To reinforce our international focus we visit cultural centres in major UK and European cities. The final year culminates in the degree show, widely regarded as one of the best in the UK. This major public event, attended by artists and curators, gives students an outstanding opportunity to showcase their work.
