BA(Hons) Adventure Media

Course Description

This is an exciting degree combining adventure activity management and media skills. In year one you will undertake aspects of practical outdoor activity instruction and develop a foundation understanding of outdoor learning and theory, as well as studying photography, video and web design, all applied to adventurous activities. These themes are developed in the second and third years with modules in expedition management, adventure filming, practical outdoor leadership and outdoor activity management. As well as using our campus in Ambleside, students also work with and share BA (Hons) Film and Television facilities at Brampton Road, Carlisle. Due to our excellent reputation, we receive a high standard of applicants for this course. Consequently, all applicants should expect to be interviewed by one of our tutors as part of the admissions process. Assessment is through a range of techniques—strong emphasis is put on investigative work. The nature of the subject means that presentations, practical assessments and portfolios are all used as well as traditional reports and essay work. Assessment may also be based on group as well as individual work.

Today’s outdoor industry requires individuals who can provide a high degree of competent leadership and capture the elements of adventures as they unfold. This is a dedicated programme that integrates adventure activities and the visual image.
