Course Description

The term ‘Fine Art’ covers a very broad range of both historical and modern/contemporary art practice. This subject offers an exciting opportunity to explore and develop your personal creativity. You will have the chance to produce large scale and ambitious work using a wide range of drawing and painting media as well as more experimental techniques, such as relief construction/mixed media. In the second year you will work on an extended personal project, focusing on your own particular area of interest. The key to this subject is the development of a personal portfolio of practical work. Emphasis is upon research, observation and the development towards a final piece. Drawing skills will be fundamental to this process. The course explores themes relevant to contemporary artists and research includes gallery visits as well as drawing/photography at places of interest. At the end of the course an exhibition of your work is assessed.The main purpose of the AS/A2 Fine Art course is to develop the students’ ability to appreciate the visual world and to respond in a personal and creative way.
