AS/A level Archaeology

Course Description

Archaeology is the study of past human societies by investigating their material remains both above and below ground. Archaeology by its very nature is a multi-disciplinary subject, calling upon a wide variety of disciplines in order to build up a picture of the past, as well as written sources and evidence from modern cultures. As such, Archaeology is an exciting and rewarding subject, which calls upon both academic, logical and practical skills, so ideal for an ‘all-rounder’ combining elements of many of the other academic disciplines such as Science, History, Sociology, Religious Studies, Earth Sciences and Anthropology. Successful students will have an enthusiasm for the subject and an interest in the past, in addition a good imagination and an enquiring mind would be useful. The type of student who succeeds in Archaeology is interested in taking on new academic challenges and expanding their vocabulary. A successful Archaeology student will enjoy interpreting evidence and extending their knowledge. He/she will also enjoy exploring different opinions and ideas. A successful student is an excellent attendee, who works consistently hard both in lessons and independently.
