Level 2 Diploma in Agriculture

Course Description

A one year practical and theory course with the main emphasis on developing your practical skills. In addition you will also under take some theory sessions that will allow you to better understand what you learn on practical sessions, farm duties and work experience. Topics studied include crop production, animal husbandry, estate skills, machine operation and an introduction to the agricultural industry. A work experience day is built into the course to further enhance your practical skills. A feature of the course is the range of visits we undertake where possible to a range of organisations, farms, shows and demonstrations e.g. LAMMA. Throughout the course your work is constantly assessed, there are no formal exams in the course but there may be short tests. Additional qualifications are offered to those learners at the commencement of their programme, these may include tractor driving, health and safety in agriculture and a L1 Work Based Diploma Agriculture qualification. Visits will be made to our partner college farms in Newton Rigg to study both upland and lowland agriculture, different farming systems in both high and low rainfall areas and alternative land production systems.
