In the 2-semester Carpentry Techniques program you will be trained in carpentry/framing techniques, hand and power tool usage, blueprint reading, electricity basics, plumbing basics, welding, computer drafting and applied construction mathematics.The focus is on carpentry, as well as on trade-related health and safety measures. You will also learn about the regulations required to work in construction. The ability to practice professional conduct on-site, and communicate and work effectively in a team environment will be key to your success. You will have the opportunity to practice and demonstrate these skills throughout the program. After successfully completing semester two, you will have earned the Carpentry Techniques Ontario College Certificate and have an opportunity to test for level one for the General Carpentry Apprenticeship. The Carpentry Techniques program opens up a number of options to you. You could: Graduate and seek employment in the construction sector Pursue an apprenticeship in carpentry Add more specialized skills by continuing on to year two of the Carpentry Technician program, or to one or more of our short, skilled trade programs such as Welding, Electrical Techniques, or Mechanical Techniques - Plumbing.

Graduates will be prepared for work on residential, industrial and commercial construction sites, performing entry level tasks on projects such as: residential construction renovations maintenance finish carpentry welding, metal fabrication insulation and drywall installation exterior siding installation.
