Course Description

The Bachelor of Midwifery is a unique programme which will lead you onto registration as a qualified Midwife. This programme will prepare you to provide autonomous midwifery care for women in a variety of settings. This programme is studied full-time and must be completed within four years. Your first year is mainly theory-based, the second year is split between practical and theory, and the third year is predominantly practical. During the programme you will be able to apply your knowledge with hospital placements and with a midwife in independent practice. You will also have the opportunity to follow women through their pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal care. On completion of the programme you will be required to sit the National Midwifery Examination to become a registered midwife. Programme Content The modules include: * Midwifery Knowledge and Skills * Art and Science of Midwifery * Midwifery Practice * Lactation and Breastfeeding * Interpersonal Skills * Normal Process of Childbirth * Human Biological Science * Cultural Safety * Childbirth Complexities * Health Research * The Well and Sick Baby Modules are offered via mixed-mode delivery, so you must have computer competencies and be able to access a computer and the internet.
