BA(Mathematics) - Concentration in Statistics

Course Description

Students interested in applied mathematics should pursue the B.S. degree. Within this degree program, the concentrations of computer science, applied mathematics, and statistics are offered. Students earning a B.S. degree with a major in mathematics must complete a minimum of 124 credits. Courses must include the basic courses required for all mathematics majors, the University Core Curriculum, and the courses listed below for one of the three concentrations. This program provides students with a background in mathematical statistics. The mathematics courses required enable a person to gain employment as a statistician in business or government or to pursue graduate study in statistics. These courses are also necessary for students wishing to pursue careers in the actuarial field.

Career outcomes

According to a recent study, seven of the top ten careers in the U.S. were mathematics-or computer-related. Because of the mathematical breadth of our programs and their large number of free electives, UNH math majors are well trained for these careers. Recent graduates of UNH mathematics programs have landed careers as computer consultants, statistical analysts for insurance companies, scientific research analysts, product managers, high school and college teachers, and business managers.
