BA(Mathematics) - Concentration in Computer Science

Course Description

Students interested in applied mathematics should pursue the B.S. degree. Within this degree program, the concentrations of computer science, applied mathematics, and statistics are offered. Students earning a B.S. degree with a major in mathematics must complete a minimum of 124 credits. Courses must include the basic courses required for all mathematics majors, the University Core Curriculum, and the courses listed below for one of the three concentrations. This program is primarily for students interested in using computing techniques to solve mathematical problems in a wide variety of disciplines. In addition to the mathematics requirements, students take eight or nine courses in computer science designed to provide training in the structure of computer languages, computing machines, and computing systems.

Career outcomes

According to a recent study, seven of the top ten careers in the U.S. were mathematics-or computer-related. Because of the mathematical breadth of our programs and their large number of free electives, UNH math majors are well trained for these careers. Recent graduates of UNH mathematics programs have landed careers as computer consultants, statistical analysts for insurance companies, scientific research analysts, product managers, high school and college teachers, and business managers.
