Advanced Materials Engineering MSc

Course Description

Our engineering courses are designed to develop your specialist skills and knowledge within your chosen area of engineering. In the case of the MSc in Advanced Engineering, the course is designed to both broaden and deepen your knowledge across a wide range of engineering subject areas. All of our engineering courses are offered as both full-time and part-time options, offering you the flexibility to organise your study around your other commitments. Our part-time options also mean that you can apply your knowledge in your workplace straight away. Our practical modules enable you to gain skills in state-of-the-art engineering and the latest technologies. All of our Engineering MSc courses are available 'with Industry', meaning that you will have the opportunity to apply your skills in a working environment during a work placement of up to nine months. Your course will provide you with the skills to develop your career or move into further research.

Career outcomes

The aims for MSc Advanced Materials Engineering are to: Gain broad knowledge of the properties, processing, characterisation, design and selection of materials for transportation, energy and aerospace applications. Obtain board knowledge of computer aided engineering design and mathematical modelling of processes to engineering materials with advanced properties. Develop a thorough understanding of the relationship between processing, structure and mechanical properties of major classes of advanced engineering materials. Develop the organisational, practical and computational skills necessary to carry out research in advanced materials engineering. Experience individual research project work for materials used in transport, energy and aerospace industry. Enable students to propose, plan, conduct research and report research outcomes in the areas related to materials processing, characterisation and failure analysis, component life prediction. Secure knowledge and research skills so that students are able to take their studies further to do a PhD, in case they complete the full MSc Course modules
