Art Museum and Gallery Studies MA/ MSc/ Postgraduate Diploma

Course Description

Museum studies courses are offered either full-time on campus, or by distance learning, enabling you to combine your studies with your other commitments. On all of our courses you will develop the knowledge and skills required to move into a variety of careers in museums and galleries, as well as being prepared for further postgraduate study. All of our full-time courses include regular visits to museums and galleries providing you with valuable opportunities to develop your skills in a practical setting, whilst guest lecturers provide you with an insight into contemporary museum and gallery work. Students studying full-time on campus are able to tailor their course of study around their interests through the wide range of option modules available. An eight week work placement enables all students to put in to practice the skills they have developed on the course. Distance learning students are encouraged to attend the optional Distance Learning Summer School each year to meet their fellow students and attend lectures, tutorials, study visits and seminars.

Career outcomes

To stimulate students to engage critically and creatively with wide ranging ideas and issues and to develop both philosophical approaches and the practical methods and skills necessary to become creative and effective art museum and gallery professionals. This interdisciplinary programme is student-focused and caters for a wide range of learning styles and approaches.
