Course Description

Our experienced team of research-active staff offer research supervision across a range of art and design disciplines that include Fine Art, Landscape Architecture, Design and Photography. We support a range of approaches from practice-based research through to purely written research. Innovative cross-disciplinary research can be achieved across art and design subjects or link with subjects in media, humanities or computing. Our facilities include: printmaking; illustration; landscape and graphic design studios; painting and 3D studios; photography studios as well as a well-resourced library and IT facilities. Supervision is usually one-to-one with a team of at least two supervisors, which may be added to in order to bring different expertise to the team as your research develops. We encourage attendance at relevant conferences, as well as the giving of papers and publication of articles towards the later stages of studies. Peer group seminars and discussions together with campus-based and university-wide open lecture programmes are seen as integral to the research student experience. Our research centres - Research into Art and the Environment and Typography and Authorial Design - build upon areas of expertise within the School and help foster the sharing of knowledge, spanning different disciplines, among both staff and students.
