About BA Czech and Russian Our Joint Honours degree in Czech and Russian enables you to explore two complementary but contrasting European cultures. Both departments enjoy a strong reputation for teaching and research. Russia has reasserted itself as an independent, powerful political and economic force, while the Czech Republic has established itself as a centre for banking, finance, media, diplomacy and tourism. You take units in both languages in year one, and choose from a range of options in years two and four combining cultural, historical and sociological approaches. In language classes, you will develop speaking, listening, reading, writing and translation skills, using a range of textbooks, media and internet resources. You will divide your third year between the Czech Republic and a Russian-speaking environment, either at university or on a work placement.
