Bachelor of Arts in Art Therapy

Course Description

The pre-professional Bachelor of Arts in Art Therapy will provide students with a multi- and interdisciplinary curriculum that is academically sound and ethically focused. This program consists of 120 credits that seek to integrate the disciplines of art and psychology. The program coursework includes 13 credit hours of art therapy/art education related courses, 12 credit hours of psychology endorsed by Psychology, 29 credit hours in studio art and 14 credit hours in art history. Coursework and fieldwork will enable students to explore their identity as artists, change agents, and as mental health practitioners through self-reflective art making, fieldwork, and research. Because a master's degree is required for entry-level practice in art therapy, the intent of this degree program is to ensure graduates have the necessary preparation to pursue graduate studies in art therapy. Students will be required to show advanced skills in one or more of the studio art disciplines and will develop a portfolio demonstrating competence with art materials.
