This is a one year full time course and is equivalent to four GCSEs grade A* to C. The course introduces you to the employment area of art and design. You will learn by completing projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. You will sample a range of vocational areas such as Art Practice, 2D and 3D Design. You will develop your understanding of materials and techniques and explore new ideas by creative use of drawing, painting and sculpture, and the use of visual language to communicate these ideas effectively. You will research, analyse and learn from looking at the work of artists and designers.

This course will enable you to prepare a portfolio of work for progression on to a specialist National Diploma in an art and design subject or prepare you for employment or further training. Please note that to progress onto a Level 3 Extended Diploma an overall Merit grade is required plus either one GCSE (Grade C or above) or essential skills Level 2.
