Course Description

The National School of Blacksmithing was originally founded in 1946 and is recognised as the foremost national centre for training blacksmiths who wish to work in the various areas of forged iron, ranging from traditional to contemporary design work. Blacksmiths trained at HCT are very highly regarded by employers and many subsequently trade in their own right. Blacksmithing is an excellent choice for a hard-working person who has good hand/eye co-ordination and artistic ability, someone who would like to form their own business or someone who has enjoyed woodwork, metalwork, drawing and other related subjects at school. This is a challenging introductory course for developing blacksmithing skills. The course seeks to lay the foundation for a successful career in forged metalwork. It comprehensively teaches the technical skills that are essential to become a competent blacksmith.
