Career outcomes

A degree in law not only prepares you for a career in law, but equips you with a range of transferable skills that will enable you to enter a number of professions. Many of our graduates go on to become solicitors or barristers such as Regan Peggs who is now an Associate within a local law firm carrying out work with the Crown Court and High Court. Upon graduating, students go into jobs as barristers, chartered legal executives, licensed conveyancers and solicitors. Others pursue law related careers both in private or public sector organisations. Some students use the transferable skills they have developed to go into areas such as journalism, insurance and accountancy. Graduates of business courses have secured jobs as company directors and project managers – as well as more diverse roles such as event managers, sales executives and marketing executives. They work for companies such as HSBC, Tesco, NHS, Nissan and Lloyds Financial. 82.4 per cent of graduates from the School of Law who responded to our KIS survey went into either employment and/or further study. Salaries for those entering full-time paid employment averaged £18,000. Employers hiring leavers from the School include Citizens Advice Bureau and The Legal Ombudsman, in positions such as Client Advisor and Legal Assessor. You’ll also gain valuable experience through our Employability Challenge Weeks, as well as our Leadership Challenge programme. Both give you the chance to apply your skills to innovative and exciting projects, industry talks and workshops. You’ll also receive guidance on how to complete application forms and how to write effective CVs.
