Course Description

The Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast and Emerging Media opens a world of opportunity in today’s complex and interrelated media fields. You will learn skills such as how to report, write, anchor, produce, direct, and edit for traditional media such as radio and television, and also how these skills are applied within social media and the Internet. You will take a balance of courses that instill a solid practical background in areas such as media writing, reporting, and production, while also gaining a fundamental understanding of media institutions, theories of communication, and media ethics. Hands-On Learning We offer hands-on learning so that you gain practical knowledge of multiple aspects of producing media content both within a studio setting and in the field. Aptitudes you can develop include anchoring a newscast, writing and producing content for the web, as well as radio and television reporting. Production techniques, editing, and television directing are also options within the broadcast and emerging media program, as are media programming, media management, and communication law. Internship Students in broadcast and emerging media also complete an internship as part of their major. Internships provide students valuable experience in professional settings as they get ready to enter the job market. Our internships are a transitional step into the world of professional media, and Barry’s location in Miami, the 16th largest media market in the country, can lead to invaluable contacts and even job offers both here and around the country.
