International relations is a vibrant, growing and constantly evolving discipline designed for students interested in careers in foreign affairs and international organisations, or any organisation that has a focus beyond Australia’s borders. The people who stay on top are the ones who know why the world changes and know what to do about it: why social media has changed the world, why we’re talking about climate change in ways our parents never did. While studying the Bachelor of Arts at UOW, you will learn how to apply critical thinking and analytical skills to real world issues to inform thinking and practice in business, government and not for profit sectors. The Federal Government's Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) ranked UOW in 2015 as the best university in Australia for Humanities, Culture & Social Sciences. What you will study: Students will undertake core subjects on how global politics works, how security is organised, how conflict is managed, and on the role of the state in the new millennium. They will partake in a model United Nations (UN), discussing ideas and brainstorming solutions to global challenges as model diplomats learning not just about the UN, but about negotiation skills and policy development. Students can choose from a range of electives covering issues from war and peace to international law and global political economics.
