Japan is one Australia's major trading partners (as well as that of many other countries) and plays an important role on the Asia - Pacific political and economic stage. The study of Japanese opens up a whole new world of linguistic and cultural experience that offers employment and research opportunities. The study of Japanese also provides access to the wonderful world of Japanese anime, manga and film. At UOW, you will study Japanese language, grammar, culture and history. Japanese is a linguistic journey and this major specifically focuses on developing spoken and written language skills that can be used in real-world situations. Japan is a country with a long history and a culture that features both traditional and modern elements. What you will study: Core subjects focus on developing spoken and written language skills that can be used in real-life situations, as well as subjects on Japanese history, culture and society. As well as your Japanese major, you must elect a minor or a second major from the Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts.
