If you are a high-achieving and motivated student, the Dean's Scholar option will give you an enriched educational experience. Each Dean's Scholar has an academic mentor, a member of academic staff who advises the student on matters concerned with the degree. You'll also get an annual book allowance, have a designated study space in the Faculty and will produce a major self-directed research project as a capstone to your degree. Communication and Media Studies will prepare you to succeed in advertising, public relations and corporate branding. The Bachelor of Arts degree allows you to gain foundational knowledge in many traditional areas of study including history, literature, languages and philosophy and the disciplines of social sciences, cultural studies, sociology and politics. Combining communication and media with arts and humanities places strong emphasis on applied learning and offers a broad introduction to ways in which new media practices shape our everyday lives, both in the workplace and in our communities. It will equip you with critical and creative thinking skills and effective communication and problem solving skills, all of which are required for high achievement in a range of media careers. This degree: You will choose one major in the Bachelor of Arts degree: Cultural Studies, English Literatures, French, History, Indigenous Studies, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin (Non-Chinese Background Students), Mandarin (Character Background Students), Philosophy, Photography, Politics, Science and Technology Studies, Sociology, Spanish, Creative writing, or Writing and English Literatures. You can also choose one of four majors in the Communications and Media Studies degree: Digital Media and Communication International Media and Communication Journalism and Professional Writing Marketing Communication and Advertising. In addition, you will choose a minor or a second major from the Bachelor of Arts offerings.
