Course Description

The Master of Science (Earth and Environmental Sciences) is designed for recent graduates or mid-career professionals who wish to extend their knowledge within the Earth and Environmental Sciences, in particular, Environmental Science, Geology, Physical Geography and Archaeological Science. The degree will serve as a refresher program for graduates wishing to explore specific combinations of topics in greater detail; a program for professionals already practicing in the Earth and Environmental Sciences who are seeking additional analytical skills, and as a stepping stone for graduates intending to proceed to a higher degree by research. The program is also suitable for graduates from other disciplines seeking complementary knowledge. Your degree: The degree emphasizes the interconnectedness of the many sub-disciplines within the Earth and Environmental Sciences, and is a flexible program allowing students to specialize in a given area, or undertake a diverse program of study. The program also develops project planning and research skills. What you study: You’ll take two core subjects (which include major research projects): Applied Research in Earth and Environmental Sciences Advanced Topic A. You’ll also choose four electives from: Advanced Plate Tectonics, Macrotopography and Earth History Advanced Coastal Environments – Processes and Management Advanced Fluvial Geomorphology and Sedimentology Advanced Geographic Information Science Advanced Remote Sensing of the Environment Dung, Death and Decay – modern scientific methods in archaeology Advanced Isotope Geochemistry Advanced Soils, Landscapes and Hydrology Fundamentals of Spatial Science Advanced Sediments and Fuels Advanced Resources and Environments Advanced Topic B Directed Studies in Earth Sciences Directed Studies in Environmental Science.
