Course Description

This degree prepares you to operate professionally in the changing face of journalism and understand the legal implications of a global industry. It opens up a wide range of career options through specialist knowledge in media law, intellectual property law and ethics, and strong production skills in print, online and broadcast journalism. The practical skills you will learn in Law include critical analysis, legal inquiry, negotiation and advocacy, which are necessary for you to excel in the legal profession. You'll gain highly-developed written and oral communication and research skills which translate across both sectors. This double degree combination focuses on providing students with experience working in a 'social-first' newsroom and live radio environments. You will play an integral part in UOW TV Multimedia and YouTube Channel to produce publishable content and broadcast-standard material working to real deadlines. Our graduates have a strong practical background in journalism, coupled with an understanding of legal issues that help them establish specialised careers in a multitude of fields. This degree: In the first year of your Law double degree, your Bachelor of Laws subjects must be completed full-time, except where Faculty approval is given on equity grounds. In the following four years of the degree, students enrol in Law subjects and Journalism subjects. We believe that practical experience is a vital part of your legal training. We are the only law school in Australia that requires you to complete a legal internship. This means you get to apply your legal knowledge to real life situations as part of your degree.
