Bachelor of Creative Arts - Bachelor of Laws

Course Description

This distinctive degree prepares you to be part of the global creative industries in a legal context. The creative sector is one of the fastest-growing, most dynamic industries in the world bringing with it a range of legal implications. This double degree combination allows you to study a traditional creative discipline such as creative writing, music, theatre, graphic design or visual arts alongside studies in law. Many lawyers find that knowledge of the arts and media is extremely useful in their practice. From something as simple as pursuing two seemingly different passions to a career defending and promoting free press and artistic expression, this double degree offers many exciting career opportunities. The practical skills you will learn in Law include hands-on skills like critical analysis, written and oral communication, legal inquiry, negotiation and advocacy, which are necessary for you to excel in the legal profession. This double degree combination provides students with a deep understanding of how these skills can be relevant in the arts, entertainment, publishing and broadcasting industries and how intellectual property law, media law and copyright law impact the creative arts sector. You will learn to understand the complexities of production, ownership, curation and entrepreneurship and how you, as a creative professional, fit within this. This degree: In the first year of your Law double degree, your Bachelor of Laws subjects must be completed full-time, except where Faculty approval is given on equity grounds. In the following four years of the degree, students enrol in Law subjects and Arts subjects. Refer to the Bachelor of Laws and the Bachelor of Creative Arts for more information about majors, minors and and electives available. We believe that practical experience is a vital part of your legal training. We are the only law school in Australia that requires you to complete a legal internship. This means you get to apply your legal knowledge to real life situations as part of your degree.
