This course covers skills and theories that will help you towards exciting roles in the media. This course contains an equal combination of practical skills - as found in our Journalism and Public Relations degrees - with academic study of the media, film and culture. On the practical side, modules include ‘News Journalism’, ‘Scriptwriting’ and ‘New Media’. To support your acquisition of skills, we run daily drop-in sessions at the David Puttnam Media Centre, staffed by a rota of professional journalists. 90% of our journalism students say that they have been able to access specialised equipment and facilities when they need to, according to Unistats 2014. On the theory side, modules include ‘Media Studies’, ‘Cultural Theory and ‘Popular Culture’ and ‘Film Studies’. You will be taught by knowledgeable and enthusiastic tutors. 90% of our Mass Communications students believe that staff are good at explaining things, according to the National Student Survey 2015. Work experience: All students studying on-campus undergraduate media courses can take up a CV-enhancing work placement, a University-led industry initiative, or a professional and business development boot camp. *By the term placement, we mean we are offering you a taste of the industry which might last anything from two days to four weeks on a part-time basis. Our teaching is enriched by Sunderland’s cutting-edge research. We host the Centre for Research in Media and Cultural Studies (CRMCS).
