By studying economics alongside finance or business studies at Chichester you get the chance to see business from a different perspective and to gain insight into the way economists think. You won't need to do clever things with algebra but you should find numerical data interesting - the big rise in the number of self-employed people in the UK since the 2008 financial crisis, for example. Studying economics with us means no large lectures, and it will suit you if you like to pursue your own interests and discuss the things you're curious about with peers and tutors. Students tell us they benefit from our decision to run small classes (typically 20-25) and we designed the economics modules to capitalise on this. Most of your classes will be based in the recently renovated 'Dome' building - Georgian exterior and modern interior. The campus is a short walk away from the beach, town and train station with a rail service to London Victoria and Gatwick international airport. Employers continuously tell us that they prefer students who have work experience and therefore we would encourage you to undertake the one year professional placement option. We have a dedicated placement officer to support you in obtaining a placement.

Relatively few businesses employ professional economists, though the Government employs a lot and there are many other employers of economists. But lots of businesses employ people with economics degrees. Having the skills and knowledge to understand the discussion about economics that takes place around us all the time is a great benefit to anyone in a management role in private business, the public sector or the third sector.
