Course Description

We are enthusiastic about literature and passionate about helping you achieve your full potential. This degree offers you an excellent grounding in a comprehensive range of texts and allows you to follow your enthusiasms, particularly when you choose your own topic for your dissertation. We encourage learning within a context that encompasses a wide range of subjects and types of study, with an emphasis on preparing students for work in the media, cultural industries and beyond. We also offer a distinctive experience of working alongside academic critics, literary theorists and practising writers. The skills you will obtain in this degree are particularly well suited to work with film production companies, TV production studios, radio outlets, newspapers, PR firms and advertising agencies. Many of our graduates go on to complete Masters degrees, using their undergraduate experience as the foundation to advanced study and/or practice. We want you to become an independent, self-motivated writer, critic and thinker. We will help you to understand the relationship between literature and the period in which it is written, to examine the form and style of literary works, to interrogate how language is used in politics, the media and the internet, and to engage with literary theorists who have opened up important philosophical and political questions.
