Being an archaeologist is not a dream but a very real job which is in high demand. The Archaeology major provides students with an overall view of world archaeological studies with particular emphasis on Australia, preparing you for a career in this field or other associated areas. Our expertise includes Indigenous, historical and maritime archaeology, unravelling the full breadth of Australia's rich Indigenous and colonial history. Archaeology is of crucial significance for the understanding of Australia's past as the only discipline able to study the nearly 60,000 years of human settlement on this continent. The analytical and practical elements of the discipline are taught within laboratory and fieldwork units which are held annually for two or three weeks. These are in combination with specialist units on rock art, Indigenous archaeology, historical archaeology, European prehistory, the origins of humans, and archaeological heritage. With an active focus on research and strong industry links, it is home to Centre of Rock Art Research and Management Eureka Archaeological Research and Consulting.
