Marine biologists study the natural processes affecting organisms in marine and estuarine environments and the human effects on these processes. Marine Biology encompasses all organisms in the marine world, from microbes to animals, from invertebrates to whales, as well as plants such as seagrasses and seaweeds.

Graduates are employed in fisheries and marine conservation agencies at both state and federal levels (such as the Department of Environment and Conservation), consulting firms, resource industries, the fishing industry, agencies such as Greenpeace and Reef Check, and in research at CSIRO, the Ocean’s Institute and universities.
