Everyone is entitled to an education, but what should be taught and by whom? This course explores how education has evolved over the years. We look at social, historical, psychological and philosophical aspects of education and how these affect issues such as teaching and learning, the inclusion of children with special educational needs, policy making, equality and curriculum design. Before starting on the BA Education, you will have an additional year to develop the skills and build the foundations needed for academic study. You could go on to teach, after completing a one-year PGCE. Besides teaching, a substantial number of students go on to gain employment as learning mentors, social or community workers, youth workers, and education welfare officers. Recent graduates have also gone on to work in the education departments in museums, galleries and theatres; early years settings; education publishing; education research departments and local education authorities. Some also go on to further studies such as master and doctoral programmes in their chose area of interest.
