Course length: Four years full-time, five years with placement. This course has been designed to cover the computer science foundation subjects and then build on this foundation with postgraduate level material in years three and four. You will acquire the skills to become an independent learner and gain advanced skills in specialised areas such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, advanced analysis and design, embedded systems and programming. A group project to manage and deliver a significant multidisciplinary engineering project will help you to further develop your communication, project management and teamworking skills. In addition you will undertake a substantive individual project where you will be required to develop software or hardware in an innovative manner. You have the option to finish your studies at the end of Year Three with a BSc (Hons) qualification or you can transfer onto this course from a BSc course, subject to your performance. You will also have the opportunity for a year-long paid work placement. The School has strong links with industry, both nationally and internationally. Our industrial partners include representatives such as: CERN Schlumberger Caterpillar Walt Disney Fisher Scientific Intel Hewlett Packard. You will work with our highly-regarded academics, who are active in a broad range of research areas, achieving 80% world-leading or internationally-excellent research impact (REF 2014). Many of our students join our academics in live project research and regularly co-author research papers. For example, the annual Interactive Technologies and Gaming Conference includes numerous papers based on student projects.
