Course Description

Programme highlights Build a great foundation of automotive engineering basics or get your existing skills recognised. Develop your general skills in vehicle and electrical technology to meet the standards of the industry. Then go on to learn specific skills and gain a competitive edge with a specialisation in your choice of light automotive, automotive electrical or motorsport. On the Light Automotive strand you will learn about the location, function and operation of major vehicle components and systems. When you graduate you will be ready to work as a trainee automotive technician carrying out repairs under supervision. On the Automotive Electrical strand you will develop the skills to successfully carry out jobs such as electrical testing, calculations, fault analysis, fault repair and fitting electrical components to a vehicle. When you graduate you will be ready to work as a technician under supervision. The Motorsport strand is based in Pukekohe, where you will gain the skills to modify a vehicle under supervision for participation in motorsport. When you graduate you will be ready to work as a technician under supervision and begin an apprenticeship with the Motor Industry Training Organisation (MITO) or if you want further training you can go on to study higher level certificates.
