BA (Hons) Economics and Banking

Course Description

This programme draws together the strengths of the department. You will gain an understanding of how banks and other financial institutions are placed in the economy, both in the UK and internationally. You will benefit from a rigorous grounding in economic theory and gain subject specific knowledge of the behaviour and practice of banks. Many of the units on this course are shared with the specialist programmes of BA (Hons) Economics and BA (Hons) Banking and Finance. We offer a placement route that provides the opportunity to work for a year in industry. Our award-winning placement team can help you find a placement. Placement options A placement year can be an excellent opportunity to acquire high quality work experience and structured on–the-job training whilst earning a salary. The placement must be a minimum of 36 weeks but it will usually last for 12 months and takes place after your second year of study.

Career outcomes

Graduates from this course will be ultimately placed to go into careers within the banking and financial services industries but will have gained economical knowledge to pursue careers in financial forecasting, economic and financial analysis. Large international banks, private wealth and asset management firms, as well as hedge fund management may all be suitable careers for graduates from this course, as would setting up your own independent consultancy or management practice.
