The Bachelor of Psychological Science is an undergraduate course consisting of 24 subjects. Psychologists use scientific methods to study the human mind and assess, diagnose, prevent and treat problems. This degree is professionally accredited and at JCU, leading experts feature in guest lectures and seminars to enhance your studies. Psychologists are interested in how people think, feel and behave. They study individuals, groups, organisations and communities and apply this knowledge accordingly. Psychologists use scientific methods to study the human mind and behaviour, they also develop theories and then test them, providing new information that adds to an already established body of knowledge. JCU Psychology programs are accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). Graduates of the Bachelor of Psychological Science will be able to: Review, critique, and synthesise the research literature in the core areas of psychology; Exercise critical thinking and judgement in the design and conduct of scientific investigations to solve psychological questions with intellectual independence; Communicate a clear, coherent, and independent exposition of knowledge and ideas through well-developed written and spoken English language skills; Use information technologies and appropriate techniques to analyse, interpret, and report research findings and data and generate solutions to problems in psychology; Adapt and apply research skills and their psychological understanding, including knowledge of cultural diversity, to investigate human and animal behaviour in diverse contexts; Interact with others in an ethical and professional manner in research and/or professional practice; and Demonstrate responsibility and accountability in planning, problem solving, decision making, collaboration and ongoing professional learning in research and/or professional practice. Completion of the Bachelor of Psychology is the first step in undertaking studies to complete a Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) or Doctor of Psychology (Clinical).
