Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours)

Course Description

This new course will be conditionally accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) until there are graduates and at that time it will receive full accreditation. Students complete a research thesis in a chosen area of specialisation. Graduates are eligible for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Graduates of this course who wish to become fully registered as psychologists must complete, in addition to this course two years of supervised practice in the field or an accredited Master's degree (e.g. Master of Psychology) with one further year of supervised practice. On successful completion of the Bachelor of Psychological Science with Honours, graduates will be able to: i) Integrate a coherent and advanced body of knowledge with depth in major theoretical perspectives and concepts, and philosophical and historical developments, in the core areas of psychology; ii) Apply knowledge and skills of research principles, methods and ethics to plan and execute a piece of research and scholarship with some independence; iii) Review and reflect on the ethics and efficacy of professional practice, interventions and interactions; iv) Analyse, synthesise and evaluate knowledge and evidence bases underpinning professional practice to provide solutions to complex problems with intellectual independence; v) Apply advanced English language, and technological and numeracy skills to generate, interpret and communicate knowledge, data, arguments and research findings appropriate for a variety of audiences; vi) Exercise high-level judgement, critical thinking and initiative to identify and solve complex problems, make informed decisions and plan ongoing professional learning within diverse research and/or professional practice contexts; vii) Adapt and apply research skills and psychological understanding, including where appropriate knowledge of cultural diversity, to investigate complex human behaviour with some independence; and viii) Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for one’s own learning and practice and in collaboration with others.
